Fundraising & Outreach
Alpha Chi Sigma is proud of the outreach events we hold to help advance chemistry, as well as our fundraising events to raise money for various charities the chapter is interested in. Every semester, we partner with The Boy Scouts of America to hold an event to teach their members more about chemistry. |

FUNDRAISING
The Zeta chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma also holds many fundraising events every semester to raise money for its operations and donate to charity as well.
Each semester with the help of the Fundraising & Outreach chairs, the Zeta chapter chooses between 1-2 charities to raise money for and donate a portion of the earnings to. The chairs do an amazing job planning and hosting various different fundraisers. Our chapter has been fortunate to work with restaurants on campus, in addition to hosting sales on the quad and our brothers even agree to get pied to raise a little bit of money!

OUTREACH
Alpha Chi Sigma collegiate chapters participate in chemistry education and outreach programs for a variety of youth organizations.
The merit badge in chemistry has been offered by the Boy Scouts of America since 1911. Annually, our chapter works with our local troops to offer chemistry lessons and help them earn their chemistry merit badges. Working with the Boy Scouts is a rare opportunity that many brothers will have to advance Zeta in a positive direction as well as help young students obtain their badges while telling them all about the joys of chemistry

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
Many AXS brothers participated in an outreach event to help the local Boy Scouts by teaching them all about chemistry! The ages ranged from elementary all the way through middle school, and we were very eager to talk about our experiences as chemists as well as tell them all about the exciting things in chemistry. We had talked about the subdisciplines of chemistry and what each one does, as well as how each one intertwines with each other. Additionally, we had mini interactive experiments for the Boy Scouts to see and touch. For example, we had a cartesian diver, the phases of an onion being cooked, and the densities of oil and water. Not only did we have a presentation, but we also allowed the Scouts to ask us any questions about what we do as chemists and shared stories from our own experiences. After volunteering, we were rewarded with a Boy Scout patch and a pocketknife! This experience allowed us to advance chemistry for the next generation of students as well as further the second object. We look forward to working with the Boy Scouts again!

This spring we had the opportunity to work with the local Boy Scouts troop to help them earn their Chemistry Merit Badges. This was not only a great opportunity for them to earn a new badge, but for us to help grow their love of Science in general. We had a presentation, along with several interactive and safe demonstrations to teach them some key Chemistry concepts and help them visualize the effects of these concepts. We set up a very interactive experience for the Scouts and it was so wonderful to see them be genuinely excited to tell us what they know and see them try to figure out why things happen the way they do. After our presentation we got to talk to the Scouts about why we love Chemistry and how it has impacted our lives in so many amazing ways. Overall this was a truly great experience for us and the Scouts to share our love of Science and help inspire the next generation to join us.
