What will I do as a pledge?
As a pledge you will have a pledge family, a set of active members to act as mentors and assist you through the pledging process. You have to learn a little about the fraternity's history and alchemy. Mostly though, you will be having fun while learning what our brotherhood is all about. Is ΑΧΣ only in Champaign-Urbana? No. ΑΧΣ has about 50 collegiate chapters throughout the country. One of the coolest parts about the fraternity is visiting another chapter or meeting brothers from a different part of the country. I'm a grad student. What about me? We are not only undergrads. Many of our active members are graduate students. In fact, many professors are also ΑΧΣ brothers (including some with Nobel Prizes). Since we are a professional fraternity, we also have active presence in industry and a number of professional chapters. What about after college? Alpha Chi Sigma still has many opportunities to alumni to network with other alumni and students. We have a very supportive alumni group that comes to talk with the students every semester about their professional life. Some even recruit students in Alpha Chi Sigma to partake in internships or even job offers, and hopefully you can be one of these people one day! Zeta members also have the chance to become part of the Chicago Pro chapter, if they choose to stay in the Chicago area after finishing studies at UIUC. If not, there are eight other professional branches around the country where you can still keep an active role in Alpha Chi Sigma as an alumni. What if I decide not to pursue Alpha Chi Sigma anymore? At any point throughout the pledging process, should you decide that you no longer want to affiliate with us you may drop. This is a simple process that will be discussed between you and your VMA's. Upon turning in your pledge pin, your pledging fees will be refunded to you. *This does not include the nonrefundable $85 pledging fee* How much of a time commitment is pledging? A few hours a week maximum. We have mandatory pledge meetings once a week and recommended activities on some weekends. The time commitment is more than to join most clubs and other organizations, but much less than to join a social fraternity. We won't wake you up at 5am to do push-ups! |
